oldie but a goodie with a little something new..

Dyslexic Symptom
  • Reads and rereads with little comprehension.
This post is old but a good one. I forgot I had written it when I was teaching and the school said I should probably wait till I move to post it... :) you will see why.

So as we talked about in past post I am not a lover of reading! I however read all the time at school and when I am a teacher or researching. I like to go further than my text book in my High School history class.. Oh and by the way if you didn't know I teach at a small Christian school for kids with learning disabilities. Ironic, no.. Back to my history class, I love art and learning about it so I also love to teach about it. When we were learning about Stonehenge, well what there is to learn about that mystery, I gave them a hangout to read that I had "read over" and gathered questions from. Apparently my dyslexic self did not read the entire thing completely through because of my class of high school BOYS I gave them a hangout that says quote". Modern-day interpretations are no less colorful: some argue that Stonehenge is a spacecraft landing area for aliens, and even more say it's a giant fertility symbol in the shape of female genitalia." I GAVE THEM A PAPER TALKING ABOUT STONEHENGE SHAPED LIKE FEMALE GENITALIA!! O my goodness!!! How did I miss that?! Luckily for me I work at a place that really understands learning disabilities and doesn't hold that completely against me!

Something up to date, we just went on a free vacation to Disney World and LOVED it. We got to go to all the parks and a VIP tour where we got to skip everyone in line.. It was amazing! Wanna see?

Way to long!

Welp friends it has been way to long! Since I have last blogged I got married, got a new job and moved to Nashville. As you can imagine I have been busy. I am a Nanny now. I Nanny a 15 month boy named Dino and a 2 weeks old baby named Byrd. Yep I spelled and told you those names right it's Byrd and Dino. Although in a book their mother gave me to record the day I always spell Byrd like Bryd. Who would of thought Grace flipping letters. I think i have caught myself before she saw. I don't want her to think I just can't spell Byrd. She doesn't know I am dyslexic yet. I haven't decided if that is going to come up or not. P.S. my husband is sitting beside me watching me type this and he keeps trying to correct me. He is a grammar man and he just can't control himself. It's quite funny that he ended up marrying me! The job has been fun so far and kind of challenging. I started watching Byrd when he was 4 days old!!!!!! That was scary and fun. I don't know how long I will be doing this Nanny thing. I enjoy it but really want to be a mommy and not a Nanny. Don't tell Mark. It really stresses him out! We are having dinner with the Johnson's tonight or as my father likes to call them Halloween, don't ask it will just confuse you more. They are super busy with their being awesome musicians life so it is nice to get to hang with them. I am on a mission to find girl friends in Nashville. My Memphis girls are so great I am dying without them here. Jess did come to see me this weekend and we had a blast! Went to Satco, Sweet Ceces, Urban Outfitters, PM and Fido. All in one day.

Thats all for now. I would upload a picture to go with this blog but Comcast sucks so I am stealing internet till they get their act together and don't have enough to get the picture thing to come up. You will just have to deal visual people! I have to go because my husband wants to play me the new song he wrote about us fighting... Oh I just can't wait! not

Letters would be flying everywhere!!

Driveways...

Dyslexic Symptoms
  • Lacks depth perception and peripheral vision.
  • Mistakes and symptoms increase dramatically with confusion, time pressure, emotional stress, or poor health.
  • Strong sense of justice; emotionally sensitive; strives for perfection.
This morning was not a good one for me! I woke up late, had gained 3 pounds, and hit my roommates car... Oh yes, you read that right! I can not pull out of driveways, there is way to much going on! This is the 3rd time in 2 years that I have pulled out of a driveway and hit the car parked behind me!!! I JUST GOT MY CAR FIXED LAST WEEK too, from when this happened last time!! It is so frustrating cause I want to stop, I want to pay attention and not do it! There is just way to much going on.. I still can't drive a stick shift! ha that just blows my mind!! The fact that I think I am fighting something off too doesn't help!
I called my ADD fiance in hopes that he would understand my frustration and struggle but instead he just told me, "Grace you need to look and pay attention", after my weight gain and car accident I didn't receive this comment very well. I responded "Mark you just need to pay attention to those 3 people talking to you at once" haha Bless his heart he was just trying to help!
On a lighter note, this weekend was great. We had a lot of birthday fun and sweets, this helped with the 3 pound weight gain, and I got my wedding invitations! THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!! I cried when I got them.
This is normal for me... I kind of cry a lot!

This is a picture of me with the invitations, 3 pounds lighter!

Marks b-day and a spa party!

Dyslexic Symptom
  • Seems to "Zone out" or daydream often; gets lost easily or loses track of time.
So Mark's birthday was yesterday and I drove to Nashville, 3 hours away, with his family for dinner. Then we all drove back, 3 hours, after dinner. Exciting and yet exhausting. It was a lot of fun though! We both have March birthdays. They are exactly 2 weeks apart and we are 2 years apart in age. You really wanted to know that! So as you can imagine the next 2 weeks will be filled with fun birthday stuff for both of us!!
Since I was thinking about Marks b-day yesterday and not St. Patrick's day I did not wear green! My little second grade girl was so upset with me. Oh by the way I am a teacher at a small school, wait it gets better, for kids with learning disabilities! I bet u didn't see that one coming. So to compensate for my mistake I did this....

Today I did wear green... doesn't exactly count! ha Also to extend the "Zoning Out" I made plans with my friend Elizabeth to go to dinner yesterday... Because I for some reason did not put together that Wednesday was Mark's birthday and I would be out of town! So I had to call her and apologize over and over for double booking... She forgave me though.. I hope!

This is Elizabeth, I put the picture up in hopes it would help her forgive me... :)

Tonight I am going to a spa party at my friend Allie's and I am so excited!!! We are getting facials, feet and back massage's and pizza! what a night!!!! That is me, Allie, Casey and Rachel.

P. S. my friend Angela is stalking my blog to see if I put pictures up of her.. Maybe she is doing this cause I stalk her blog to see if there are pictures of me ,but that is just a small detail. So this is a picture of Allison, Angela and I at a party last weekend!

A book...

Dyslexic Symptoms
  • Complains of dizziness, headaches or stomach aches while reading.
  • Reading or writing shows repetitions, additions, transpositions, omissions, substitutions, and reversals in letters, numbers and/or words.
  • Reads and rereads with little comprehension.

So to start out, reading is not my favorite! I have read one book and one book series for fun in my entire life. "Redeeming Love" and "Twilight", all four. Don't hate on "Twilight" either! It is amazing!! Both were easy reads and love stories! The first book I ever read as a small child consisted of my mother chasing me around the house, because I was running from her, getting me in a scissor hold between her legs and making me read! However, I am getting married and preparing for marriage consist of a lot of books... The marriage counselor wants you to read books, friends and family suggest books! They are everywhere. Neither the less, my sweet friend Casey gave me a book last night. A book about praying for your husband.

Even though reading is about as fun to me as sitting through a day lector on micro organisms is to you, I am going to do it! I need to prepare for marriage. I have to suck it up and start reading. What will probably happen is I will get half way through and stop but goodness people I am going to try! Dear Casey did give me the book with a disclaimer, "It's just a little reading a day, I promise its not to much". So sweet of her to try and understand.

P.S. I might have cheated and looked up the spelling for micro organisms.. don't judge me.. I also might have had the computer read this one back to me too! I was trying to be funny and I just wanted it to make since! I'm sorry!!!

Already Addicted: What is dyslexia and wedding shoes

So yes I have already posted today but I am really loving the idea of this thing. It is very freeing to really express myself and know that yes everyone understand why there are so many errors.... Speaking of that, I think there does need to be a little explaining on what dyslexia really is. First off, no I do not read everything backwards or write it backwards. Flipping letters is just a small part of what dyslexia is. It's like if you have the flu and one of your symptoms is being weak. That is not all of the flu. Your flu is not just defined as being weak. So lets talk about these symptoms.

  • Talented in art, drama, music, sports, mechanics, story-telling, sales, business, designing, building, or engineering.
  • Seems to "Zone out" or daydream often; gets lost easily or loses track of time.
  • Difficulty sustaining attention; seems "hyper" or "daydreamer."
  • Learns best through hands-on experience, demonstrations, experimentation, observation, and visual aids.
  • Confused by letters, numbers, words, sequences, or verbal explanations.
  • Reading or writing shows repetitions, additions, transpositions, omissions, substitutions, and reversals in letters, numbers and/or words.
  • Has difficulty telling time, managing time, learning sequenced information or tasks, or being on time.
  • Can be an extra deep or light sleeper
  • Mistakes and symptoms increase dramatically with confusion, time pressure, emotional stress, or poor health.
These are just some of the "symptoms". I have most of these, so get excited!

p.s. I bought my wedding shoes this weekend! Want to see them?? I am obsessed with pink so of course they are pink flats! so excited!

For the First Time

Ok, so for the first time in my entire life I will be writing something that is going to be seen by many, but not edited by my Mother! Yes it's sad but every paper I have ever written has been proofed by my mom. I just can't see my mistakes! Welcome to the life of a Dyslexic! This is also the first time in my life I have openly talked about my Dyslexia with just everyone. Yes if you asked I would tell you but this is a little different. I will now be a blogger and none of my post will have I have edited by my mom or Mark! Yes I will admit I called my mom about the title but that was before I made you this promise. So get excited, I will be telling you about my life with all the spelling errors, grammar mistakes and just flat out misplaced words your little heart could desire. Oh and there will probably be a lot of pictures... :)

Starting with this one! From our Save The Date. Yes the Wedding is getting closer and closer but still way to far away. Everyone keeps telling though July 24th will be here before we know it!! Shower dates are starting to get set and I think we are about to book our wedding entertainment! The fun stuff is starting. The website is finished,www.mywedding.com/markandgrace/. I did have that edited! Some of Mark's friends don't know me that well yet! I actually had Mark and my mom edit that one for me... oh dear! I will have my computer read me what I have written, which is completely cheating.. It can't check my grammar but really helps with those misplaced words. Maybe after a while I will get comfortable enough to just post with no reading. That is the goal!
